Tech talk at Devoxx Morocco: The Hardware Mindset in a Software World

Last November, my good friend Konstantin and I went to Devoxx Morocco to present a talk titled “The Hardware Mindset in a Software World.” The idea behind the talk comes from our roots in hardware engineering: we both studied it as a classical engineering discipline, and that background still strongly influences how we think about software today. In the talk, we shared a series of principles that come from our experience as hardware engineers – turned software developers. These principles are less prominent in everyday software development, but can make a real difference when it comes to software design and reliability.

The conference itself was a wonderful experience, with a strong and welcoming Java community and many engaging talks. Fun and informal conversations — sharing experience between sessions — made it easy to connect with other developers and speakers. The city of Marrakech was a fantastic backdrop for the event: vibrant, colorful, full of great food, and incredibly friendly people. All of this added to the overall experience and made the conference feel truly special.

I really enjoyed presenting this talk. Sharing our experience on stage, hearing questions from the audience, and continuing the discussions afterward was genuinely rewarding. The post-conference activities organized for the speakers were a great treat and created a relaxed atmosphere that made it easy to connect with other speakers. I had a great time in Morocco and can highly recommend both the conference and the city!

Events like this are a great way to experience the richness of Java community — getting to learn new things and talking to people outside your day-to-day work.
